Korkia has received an environmental permit for the Smedjebacken hybrid project in Dalarna, Sweden, covering a 150 MWp solar plant and a 150 MW/600 MWh BESS (Korkia press release, 26/06/2026). Located in the Vilmoren forest area, the project has also secured grid connection and will be now progressing towards ready-to-build status. Once operational, the project is expected to generate about 150 GWh/year of electricity and provide grid flexibility through co-located storage.
Korkia’s renewable energy portfolio includes 15 GW of mature projects and 9 GW of early-stage utility-scale solar, wind and BESS assets across Europe, North America and South America. In the first half of 2026, the company secured several permits globally, including approvals for two solar projects in Alberta (Canada), a substation in Chile and multiple solar and storage licences in Romania.
