Kogas and T&T partner to develop LNG and hydrogen projects in Vietnam

The South Korean gas company Kogas has signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Vietnam’s T&T Group to develop LNG and hydrogen projects in Vietnam. The two firms will develop LNG-to-power projects in the country, as well as convert coal-fired projects that are already in Vietnam’s 8th Power Plan to LNG-fired projects. The two companies will also explore opportunities to develop hydrogen production projects intended to meet the demand of power projects, and develop business using LNG cold energy from LNG terminals in Vietnam.

Kogas and T&T Group have already partnered to develop the VND54,000bn (US$2.3bn) Hai Lang LNG-fired power plant, located in Vietnam’s central province of Quang Tri. As part of the first phase of the project, the partners will build a 1.5 GW facility, which is scheduled to be completed in 2026 or 2027.
