KKR and SK partner on 10 GW renewable energy platform in South Korea

US private equity firm KKR and South Korea’s SK have announced the creation of South Korea’s largest renewable energy platform, with a value of KRW2tn (USD1.3bn), aimed at supporting the growing demand for clean electricity from AI data centres and semiconductor manufacturing facilities (SK press release, 30/06/2026).

Under the newly formed platform, SK and KKR will consolidate renewable energy assets previously owned by SK affiliates, including solar, onshore and offshore wind, and fuel cell projects, into a single entity.

According to the press release, the platform will become South Korea’s largest renewable energy business, with approximately 1.7 GW of operational capacity and a development pipeline expected to increase its total capacity to 10 GW, enough to simultaneously and continuously supply electricity to 100 large-scale data centres of 100 MW each.

KKR will initially hold management control of the platform, while SK will participate as an equity investor and may pursue control rights through future discussions.
