Texas LNG Brownsville, a subsidiary of Glenfarne Energy Transition, has selected the US services provider Kiewit to lead the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of its proposed 4 Mt/year LNG terminal in Port of Brownsville, Texas (US). Kiewit’s subsidiaries, Kiewit Engineering Group and Kiewit Energy Group, will work on the LNG facility under a lump-sum turnkey (LSTK) structure, and Glenfarne expects to work with them to complete engineering required to proceed to a final investment decision (FID). The project is FERC permitted with commercial operations expected in 2028
As of end-2023, the US had a liquefaction capacity of over 78 Mt. The country exported 92 Mt of LNG in 2023. The US remained the largest supplier of LNG to the EU in 2023, accounting for nearly half of total LNG imports. In 2021, the US became Europe’s largest LNG supplier, ahead of Qatar and Russia.
