Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) has installed the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) of the 1,340 MW Shin Kori-5 nuclear reactor, currently under construction on the site of the Shin Kori nuclear power plant in South Korea. The APR-1400 reactor entered into construction in April 2017 and is currently 51% complete. Commissioning is expected in March 2023.
Located near the southeastern city of Busan, the Shin Kori nuclear power plant consists of the Shin Kori-1 and Shin Kori-2, two operational OPR-1000 reactors (950 MW net, 1,000 MW gross) that were commissioned in 2011 and 2012, respectively, and of the Shin Kori-3 and 4 reactors (1,340 MW each), the first Korean-designed APR-1400, which were commissioned in December 2016 and September 2019, respectively. The construction of these two units was delayed by technical issues. The two additional units of 1,340 MW currently under construction on the site, Shin Kori-5 and 6, are expected to enter into commercial operation in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Two other APR-1400 units are under construction on the Shin Hanul site in South Korea.
