KBR wins FEED contract for Tortue LNG project off Senegal and Mauritania

BP has awarded US-based engineering and construction firm KBR a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the first phase of the Tortue offshore gas terminal development project located on the maritime border between Senegal and Mauritania. The contract also includes a mechanism enabling the transition of the agreement to an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract at a later date.

KBR will perform the FEED works until the end of 2018 to support the final investment decision (FID). In April 2018, BP had awarded another contract to TechnipFMC for the development of the floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) FEED for the LNG project, in which BP holds 60% (30% Kosmos Energy and 10% Société des Pétroles du Sénégal (Petrosen)).

Gas production could start as of 2021 and would be processed by a 2.5 Mt/year floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility to supply gas to Senegal and Mauritania and to exports to global markets, with potential for expansion to 10 Mt/year.
