KBR awarded pre-FEED contract of Tortue FLNG 2-3 project in Senegal

Oil and gas company BP has awarded KBR the pre-FEED services contract for the development of Phases 2 and 3 of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim gas project located at the maritime border of Senegal and Mauritania. The contract will explore options to expand gas deliveries from an ultra deep-water subsea system to pre-treatment and offshore LNG production capacities located at the established Phase 1 hub.

In December 2018, BP and its partner Kosmos Energy made a final investment decision (FID) on the first phase of the Greater Tortue-Ahmeyim offshore gas project. Gas production will be processed in a 2.5 Mt/year floating LNG (FLNG) plant. Construction will start in 2019 and commissioning will begin in 2022. In March 2019, BP awarded McDermott a US$500m to US$750m engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract to provide its upgraded Amazon vessels. BP also selected Baker Hughes GE (BHGE) to provide components for subsea connection (March 2019).

The Greater Tortue and Ahmeyim fields are estimated to hold around 15 tcf (around 425 bcm) of gas. The governments of Senegal and Mauritania signed an agreement in February 2018 to equally split resources, taxes and revenues.
