Kazakhstan targets 31.3 bcm of commercial gas production by 2030

Kazakhstan has approved the Comprehensive Gas Industry Development Plan for 2025–2029 together with the Hydrocarbon Field Development Plan through 2035, aiming to bring 30 new oil and gas fields into development and expand the country’s commercial gas reserves (Kazakh government statement, 07/07/2026).

“To date, nine contracts have been concluded with QazaqGaz, of which six projects are at the exploration stage and three are at the production stage. In the period 2023–2025, national companies JSC QazaqGaz and JSC KazMunayGas have already put into commercial operation the Anabay, Barkhannoye, Ryshkovskoye, and Zapadnaya Prorva fields. In addition, in 2027, it is planned to commission the second stage of the Zapadnaya Prorva field, as well as the Maldybai and Pridorozhnoye fields”, the statement said.

According to the Ministry of Energy, total gas production reached 68.2 bcm in 2025, while 25.9 bcm were produced during the first five months of 2026. Production is projected at 64.5 bcm for 2026. Commercial gas production totalled 27.4 bcm in 2025, and the same level of 27.4 bcm is expected to be maintained in 2026. During the first five months of 2026, 10 bcm of commercial gas was produced.

Based on the forecast balance, Kazakhstan’s commercial gas production is expected to reach 31.3 bcm by 2030. According to the government, this output will be sufficient to satisfy domestic demand, while accommodating the continued expansion of population gasification. The government also noted a steady increase in domestic gas consumption, which reached 20 bcm in 2025.

Forecasts indicate that commercial gas production will rise from 23.4 bcm in 2025 to 35.5 bcm by 2032.
