Kanadevia Inova advances on 126 MW waste-to-energy project in Morocco

Kanadevia Inova in partnership with Nareva and Itochu, has signed a 33.5-year concession agreement for the 126 MW Casablanca Solid Waste Treatment and Valorisation Project with the Moroccan Municipality of Casablanca, alongside electricity off-take agreements with SRM Casablanca-Settat and ONEE (Kanadevia Inova press release, 04/08/2026).

The USD1.5bn facility is planned to be developed in Casablanca, where it is expected to process approximately 1.5 Mt/year of municipal waste and to have an installed electricity generation capacity comprising 126 MW of waste-to-energy (WtE) generation, 50 MW of solar PV and 4 MW of landfill biogas recovery. Total electricity production is expected to reach around 1 TWh/year, enough to supply nearly one million residents.

Construction is expected to start before the end of 2026, subject to financing completion, with full operations targeted by mid-2030. Located next to the Mediouna landfill, the project is anticipated to increase waste valorisation rates to around 80% while reducing reliance on landfill disposal

According to the consortium, the project aims to support Morocco's energy transition and help address electricity demand growth of around 3% per year through 2030. The project marks Morocco's first integrated WtE infrastructure and Kanadevia Inova's entry into the African waste-to-energy market.
