Rosatom is ready to commission the fourth and last unit at Kalinin nuclear power plant (Udomlya, Tver Region).
Construction of Kalinin NPP Phase Two of Units 3 and 4 with VVER-1000 reactors was started as back as 1984 but was suspended in the 1990s; Unit 3 was put on line in 2004. The decision to continue building Unit 4 was made in 2005. The construction works resumed in 2007 after the Rosekspertiza’s statement and Rostechnadzor’s license had been obtained. On 20 October 2011, the first fuel assembly was loaded into the reactor to start the first criticality program at the unit. On 8 November 2011, the reactor installation was brought to the minimum controlled power. On 22 November 2011, the test connection of Unit 4 generation to the grid was carried out. On 24 November 2011, the first power program of the unit started. On 12 December 2011 Kalinin NPP Unit 4 power was raised up to 50% of the rated value in the presence of Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
