JERA seeks permit for a 356 MW offshore wind project off Akita (Japan) 

The Japanese energy group JERA has submitted its primary environmental impact consideration document for the 356 MW Happo-Noshiro offshore wind project to the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI). The project will be located off the coast of Happo-Noshiro in Akita Prefecture and will include as many as 30 wind turbines.

Japan aims to develop 10 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and between 30 GW and 45 GW by 2040. In December 2021, the country launched a public auction for the development of a 356 MW offshore wind project in Happo-Noshiro, off Akita prefecture in northern Japan. Bids are open until 10 June 2022 and the project developer will be announced in December 2022. The area was selected in September 2021 as a promotion are to develop an offshore wind project.
