Japanese power group J-Power has started the construction of a 1,200 MW combined-cycle (CCGT) power project in Will County, Illinois (United States). The Jackson project will consist of two 600 MW units and is expected to be commissioned in April 2022. It will serve the ComEd area of PJM.
J-Power aims to grow on the US power market and to benefit from its large business opportunities. The group is already taking part to 11 thermal power projects in the United States with a combined capacity of 5.4 GW (equity capacity of 2 GW), of which 9 gas-fired power plants (equity capacity of 1.85 GW) and one coal-fired power plant (equity capacity of 121 MW).
J-Power also owns stakes in CCGT and biomass-fired power plants in Thailand (equity capacity of 3.3 GW) and in coal-fired and hydropower plants in China (equity capacity of 926 MW). Overall, the group has stakes in nearly 22 GW of power capacity (equity stake of 6.9 GW), taking into account assets in the Philippines, Taiwan and Poland. In addition, J-Power is taking part to the construction of a 2 GW coal-fired power project in Central Java (Indonesia) and of the 860 MW Triton Knoll wind proejct in the United Kingdom.
