The Council of Ministers of Ivory Coast has adopted the target to double the current electricity production capacity of 1,850 MW to around 4,000 MW by 2020 to face the growing domestic demand for electricity.
To this end, the Council of Ministers has approved a project to build two CCGT power plants with a power generation capacity of 350 MW and 277 MW respectively, that will bring an additional electricity production capacity of 627 MW. These projects will be conducted by the Ivorian Company of Electricity Production (CIPREL) and the company Azito Energy over a period of three years.
Meanwhile, CIPREL's parent company Eranove announced it has signed an agreement with Government to develop a 350-400 MW gas-fired power plant and Star Energie has signed in August 2016 an EPC contract with CEEC for the construction of a 372 MW gas-fired CCGT power plant in Songon.
