Italy's Terna updates its 2021-2025 plan, pledging €10bn in total investments

The Italian power transmission system operator (TSO) Terna has approved the update of the 2021-2025 Industrial Plan "Driving Energy", with total capital expenditures of €10bn, including €9.5bn in domestic regulated activities. The plan targets increased investment in the development of the Italian transmission grid, which is due to reach €5.6bn, with a focus on the construction of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) lines. The most important project is the Tyrrhenian Link, the power line that will connect Sardinia, Sicily and Campania. The other projects include Sa.Co.I.3 (the interconnector linking Sardinia with Corsica and Tuscany), and the "Colunga-Calenzano" power line between Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany. The company will also invest €2.6bn in renewing and improving the efficiency of assets and €1.3 billion in the Defence Plan, with the aim of boosting the system’s technical and technological capabilities to increase system functionality.
