Italy’s Eni saw sharp decrease in profit in 2024, while production rose slightly

The Italian oil and gas company Eni has released it 2024 results, in which the group posts a €5.3bn adjusted net profit, a 37% decrease compared to 2023 (-€3bn). Eni produced 1,707 kboe/d of hydrocarbons in 2024, a 3% increase compared to 2023. Production includes 784 kb/d of liquids (+2%) and 4,831 mcf/d (137 mcm/d or 50 bcm/year) of natural gas (+5%). In 2024, net additions of proved reserves were 700 mboe relating to discoveries, extensions and revisions of previous estimates. These additions drove an all-sources reserve replacement ratio of 113%. Eni’s total reserves stood at 6.5 Gboe in 2024.

Eni’s total refinery throughput reached 24.21 Mt in 2023 (a 12% decrease compared to 2023) with 13.76 Mt in Italy alone (-18%), notably due to lower volumes processed at the Livorno and Sannazzaro refineries. Retail sales of oil products in Europe rose slightly at 7.69 Mt in 2023 (+2%), including 5.4 Mt in Italy (+2%). Its wholesale sales in Europe also rose by 2% to reach 12.77 Mt, including 9.9 Mt in Italy (+1%). 

Eni sold 50.88 bcm of gas in 2024 worldwide (+1% compared to 2023), including 9.8 bcm of LNG (+2%): the group sold 24.4 bcm in Italy (stable) and 23.4 bcm in the rest of Europe (-2%). 

In 2024, Eni sold 18.28 TWh of electricity through the open market (+2%). It produced 20.16 TWh of power from thermal sources (stable) and 4.7 TWh from renewable sources (+18%) through its affiliate Plenitude.
