Indonesia has approved the plan of development worth IDR280,000bn (US$18bn) of the Geng North gas field and nearby Gehem field, both part of the Indonesia Deepwater Development (IDD) project now operated by Italy's Eni. The approval will create a new production hub, called the Northern Hub, in the Kutei Basin. The Indonesian authorities have also approved the plan of development for Gendalo & Gandang fields. Additionally, Eni has been awarded by the Indonesian authorities a 20-year extension of the IDD licences named Ganal and Rapak.
The Northern Hub plan of development envisages the development of the 5 tcf (142 bcm) gas and 400 mbl of condensates of the Geng North discovery announced by Eni in October 2023, along with the 1.6 tcf (45 bcm) of the nearby Gehem discovery via subsea wells, flowlines and a new built floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit with a handling capacity of about 1 bcf/d (10 bcm/year) gas and 80,000 bbl/d of condensates per day and a storage capacity of 1 mbl.
The approved Gendalo & Gandang plan of development foresees the development of the cumulative 2 tcf (57 bcm) gas reserves via subsea wells tied back to the Jangkrik Jangkrik Floating Production Unit. The development of Gendalo & Gendang will allow to extend Jangkrik’s gas production plateau, which nears 750 mcf/d (8 bcm/year), by at least 15 years.
