The Ministry of Ecological Transition of Italy received 64 expressions of interest (EOIs) in the first round of bilateral meetings for the development of new generation of floating offshore wind power plants (Italy). Companies and consortiums, including AGNES, Ansaldo Energia, Edison, Eni, ERG, Moncada Energy Group, Repower, RWE, Saipem and Sorgenia submitted their EOIs. At least 20 EOIs proposed detailed projects and 40 floating offshore wind projects were examined, mainly off the coasts of Sicily and Sardinia and along the Adriatic coast (the remainder was distributed between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas).
Italy has currently no offshore wind capacity. In October 2021, Falck Renewables and BlueFloat Energy - which are among the bidders - jointly proposed to build two floating offshore wind projects in southern Italy, the 1.2 GW Kailia project off Brindisi (Puglia), and a 1.3 GW floating offshore wind plant off the southern coast of the province of Lecce. Saipem, AGNES and QINT'X also sought approval to instal an energy hub off the coast of Ravenna in the Adriatic Sea (Italy), which would comprise two offshore wind plants with a total capacity of 600 MW, a 100 MW floating photovoltaic system, plus a 50 MW hydrogen storage system.
