Italian electricity TSO Terna plans €4bn investment by 2021

The Italian power transmission network operator Terna has released its 2017-2021 strategy, raising its capital expenditures plans by 30%, from €2.6bn over the 2016-2019 period to €4bn over the 2017-2021 period.



The €1.4bn increase will benefit to development projects (48%), replacement and maintenance projects (29%), defense projects (11%) and renewables integration to the grid (12%). The main ongoing electricity infrastructure projects include the interconnections with Montenegro and France that should be both completed in 2019. During the Plan period, Terna will begin the new projects SACOI3 – that will connect Sardinia, Corsica and Italy – and the Italy-Austria interconnection. Further projects aimed at improving exchange capacity between the different Italian market zones are: Colunga-Calenzano, Foggia-Gissi, Paternò-Pantano-Priolo and Chiaramonte Gulfi-Ciminna.



For 2017 investments will be around €900m, while revenue is expected at around €2.25bn.
