Iraqi Kurdistan plans to double oil pipeline export capacity

The Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq plans to double the capacity of the oil export pipeline delivering crude oil to Turkey. The export pipeline, commissioned in early 2014, was expected to have a transport capacity of 300,000 bbl/d but started deliveries of 100,000 - 120,000 bbl/d. Works to increase the capacity to 200,000 bbl/d (up to 220,000 bbl/d) are under way and should be completed by the end of August 2014. Meanwhile, the production of Kurdistan's largest oil field, the Taq Taq oil field, is being ramped up and should reach 140,000 bbl/d by this date. The capacity of the pipeline could be later increased again.

Kurdistan oil exports (7.8 mbl so far) to Ceyhan in Turkey have aroused tensions with Iraq's central government in Baghdad, which claims the sole authority to handle and export Iraqi oil and threatens potential buyers with legal action. The KRG plans to raise oil exports to about 1 mb/d by late 2015.
