Iraq signs deal to boost Akkas gas field production to 4.1 bcm/year by 2028

The Iraqi Ministry of Oil has signed a contract with the Ukrainian company Ukrzemresurs to develop the Akkas gas field in western Iraq. Ukrzemresurs will increase production at the Akkas gas field from 60 mcf/d (620 mcm/year) of gas currently to 100 mcf/d (1 bcm/year) by 2025 or 2026, and to 400 mcf/d (4.1 bcm/year) by 2028.

The Akkas gas field, which was found in 1992, has approximately 5.6 tcf (159 bcm) of confirmed natural gas deposits. Iraq produced nearly 9.9 bcm of natural gas in 2022 (+2.8%). The country’s proved gas reserves stood at 3,714 bcm (2022).
