Iraq awards deals to raise Artawi oilfield output from 60 to 210 kb/d

The Iraqi government has approved major agreements aimed at accelerating development of the Artawi oilfield in the country’s south, which holds estimated reserves of 2.4 Gbl of oil. As part of the second phase of the project, the government awarded the Networks and Well Platforms (NWP) tender to Chinese state-owned company Sinopec. It also granted a special exemption to award the contract for the Artawi Central Processing Facility to Turkish engineering and construction firm ENKA. Currently producing around 60 kb/d, the Artawi oilfield is expected to undergo a significant production boost, with plans to ramp up output to approximately 210 kb/d.

The field is also part of the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP), a US$27bn energy initiative led by the Iraqi government in partnership with France’s TotalEnergies. The broader project includes the construction of a gas processing plant with a planned capacity of 600 mcf/d (6.2 bcm/year), to be developed in two phases.
