Iran issues construction permits for 4 GW of solar projects

The Iranian Ministry of Energy has issued permits for the construction of solar projects across Iran with a total capacity of  4 GW. The solar plants, which will receive state support, are expected to become operational within the next two years. The Iranian government aims to develop 10 GW of renewables until 2025. In April 2022, the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organisation (Satba), an affiliate of the country's Ministry of Energy, launched a tender for 4,000 MW of solar projects with a capacity of more than 10 MW.

Solar accounts for less than 1% of Iran's installed capacity, with 410 MW (end of 2020). Iran had 82 GW of installed capacity at the end of 2020, with 54 GW of gas, 15 GW of oil and 12 GW of hydro.
