Iran has completed construction of the final two processing trains (A and B) of the Central Treatment and Export Processing (CTEP) facility at the South Azadegan oil field in Khuzestan province, in the country’s southwest (Shana, 05/08/2026). The units are currently undergoing pre-commissioning and testing and will increase crude processing capacity from 160 kb/d to the full design capacity of 320 kb/d.
The CTEP facility is a key component of the development of West Karoun oil region, which includes the South and North Azadegan, Yadavaran, and North and South Yaran fields. The plant processes crude by removing water and salt, stabilizing the oil for export, and feeding it into the West Karoun pipeline network.
The project also includes associated gas capture and processing facilities aimed at reducing flaring. Once completed, these facilities are expected to deliver approximately 200 mcf/d (2.1 bcm/year) of gas to the nearby Gas and NGL 3200 plant.
The first two processing trains (C and D) entered service in December 2025, providing 160 kb/d of capacity. With completion of all four trains, the project's main crude-processing infrastructure is now in place. According to PEDEC, total crude processing capacity across the West Karoun region is projected to reach 820 kb/d upon full completion of the CTEP project, supporting Iran's wider objective of increasing oil production from its shared border fields with Iraq.
