Iran commissions the first phase of the 914 MW Foulad Mobarakeh CCGT plant

Iran has commissioned the 307 MW first phase of the 914 MW Foulad Mobarakeh CCGT power plant, located in the province of Esfahan, central Iran. The plant will supply electricity to the Mobarakeh Steel Company, an Iranian steel production group which invested around IRR200,000bn (US$402m) for the development of this project.

The Foulad Mobarakeh CCGT plant is the third industrial self-supplying gas-fired power plant commissioned since the Iranian Ministry of Energy launched a scheme to develop 5.3 GW of power plants destined to supply industries. The two previous ones were the Semnan and Kerman power plants.

As of end-2022, gas dominated Iran's installed capacity (71% with nearly 60 GW) and power generation (87%). Iran is also a major gas producer, with nearly 244 bcm produced in 2022.
