Invenergy plans a 552 MW offshore wind park in A Coruña (Spain)

The US-based energy company Invenergy has submitted a document to the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco) expressing its interest to develop the 552 MW O Boi floating offshore wind project off the coast of Galicia, in northern Spain. The project would be located at a distance of less than 60 km from the coast of A Coruña, in the Nor-2 area, over a 1,800 km2 zone. The development and construction of the floating offshore wind project is expected to consist of several phases, whose total duration can be estimated in a range of 8 to 10 years until its commissioning. The 552 MW project should be able to produce approximately 15% of all the electricity demand of the Galician Community or enough power to meet the demand of over 600,000 Spanish homes.

Spain has an electricity capacity of 125 GW (end of 2023), of which nearly 31 GW come from wind (24%). The country also has nearly 11 GW of offshore wind projects announced.
