Invenergy moves ahead with a 4 GW power transmission line in New Mexico (US)

Invenergy Transmission, the transmission and distribution affiliate of the US energy group Invenergy, has entered into a joint development agreement with the Renewable Energy Transmission Authority (RETA) of New Mexico (United States) to advance the proposed New Mexico North Path transmission project. The North Path project is a planned high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line that would deliver up to 4 GW of renewable (solar and wind) power from north-eastern New Mexico to the Four Corners region, powering New Mexico and other western states and contributing to New Mexico's 50% renewable energy standard by 2030.

In November 2022, the US states of New Mexico and Arizona approved Pattern Energy's 3 GW, 885 km, 525 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) SunZia transmission line between central New Mexico and southern Arizona. The company also received approval for its 3.5 GW SunZia onshore wind project from the state of New Mexico, which will be located in the Torrance, Lincoln, and San Miguel Counties (New Mexico). Construction of the projects is expected to start in mid-2023.
