Installation of the Nemo Link interconnector's first part (UK)

The Nemo Link joint venture has started to lay down the first 59 km of the double subsea cable between the French offshore section and the UK onshore landing point. The remaining 71 km are scheduled for laying down on the Belgian offshore section for spring 2018. The land cable works on the UK side (2 km) will be finalized by the end of 2017 while they have recently started on the Belgian side (8 km). In the meantime, construction works have started on on both converter sites.

With a capacity of 1,000 MW, this interconnection is scheduled to be put into service in early 2019 and will allow electricity to be conveyed in both directions between the UK and Belgium. Nemo Link is a joint venture between Elia System Operator SA (Belgium, 50%) and National Grid Interconnector Ltd (UK, 50%) and it will operate the first HDVC electricity interconnection between Belgium and the UK.
