Inpex starts FEED work at 9.5 Mt/year Abadi LNG project (Indonesia)

The Japanese oil and gas company Inpex has started Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) work at its Abadi LNG project in Indonesia. The project is operated by INPEX Masela, an INPEX subsidiary, and it includes an onshore LNG plant, an FPSO, subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF), and a gas export pipeline (GEP). The company has already awarded contracts for the FPSO, SURF and GEP, where the FPSO also includes an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) for the vessel.

The Abadi LNG Project (Inpex Masela 65%, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Masela 20%, Petronas Masela 15%) is expected to reach a total gas liquefaction capacity of 9.5 Mt/year, equivalent to more than 10% of Japan’s annual LNG imports. The project, which was listed by the Indonesian government as a national strategic project in June 2017 and as a priority infrastructure project in September 2017, is expected to contribute to the economic development of the eastern part of Indonesia.
