The Japanese oil company Inpex Corporation has announced a reorganization of its natural gas activities and added a "Domestic Energy Supply & Marketing Division" as of April 2017.
According to the company, this move is triggered by the country's full liberalization of the gas retail market which will be effective in April 2017. The business environment will change and the company aims to be more resilient. It is targeting a gas supply volume of 2.5 bcm/year in the early 2020s and 3 bcm/year later on.
For this purpose, Inpex developed its gas supply infrastructure and pipeline network notably with the start of operations at the Naoetsu LNG terminal in December 2013 and the commissioning of the Toyama line in October 2016.
These changes fit into Inpex's long term strategy which is threefold: increase of E&P activities, strengthening of its role in Japan's gas supply chain and development of its business in renewable energies.
