The Peruvian power generator Inkia Energy has received environmental approval to expand its Sunny solar power plant located in La Joya, in the Arequipa region (southern Peru) from 228 MW to 338 MW. The Sunny solar power plant is currently under development by Inkia Energy’s wholly-owned subsidiary Kallpa, and is expected to start commercial operations in the second half of 2025. The expansion is expected to enhance the project’s output and support the construction of two adjacent solar projects.
The expansion is a part of the company’s plan to establish Peru’s solar hub, which is expected to contribute approximately 1 GW of renewable capacity to the country’s national interconnected grid in the fourth quarter of 2025. Inkia Energy is also preparing to launch two wind projects with a combined capacity of 600 MW in 2026.
Inkia Energy’s expansion campaign aims to secure a position as Peru’s leading energy solutions company through by developing a balanced portfolio integrating renewable sources with efficient natural gas capacity to provide reliable and efficient power supply.
