Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities Energy Platform have signed agreements with Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company to develop two renewable energy projects in the country. The projects will have a combined capacity of 1.2 GW of solar power and 720 MWh of battery storage (Infinity Power press release, 04/11/2025).
Under the agreements, the consortium will develop a 200 MW solar power plant in Benban, expected to reach commercial operation in the third quarter of 2026, including 120 MWh of connected battery storage, and a 1 GW solar power plant in Minya, incorporating 600 MWh of storage capacity, targeting the third quarter of 2027 for commercial operation.
- Infinity Power is a joint venture between Egypt’s Infinity and UAE’s Masdar.
- Hassan Allam Utilities Energy Platform, co-owned by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), is a renewable energy investment vehicle managing a 2.3 GW portfolio under development, set to reach commercial operation between Q3 2026 and Q3 2027, with an additional 1.65 GW pipeline including 350 MW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind.
Egypt aims to increase the share of renewables to 42% of its total energy mix by 2030 and 65% by 2040.
