Indonesia has launched the first phase of its 100 GW solar power programme, with 14 solar projects representing a combined capacity of 5.3 GW across six provinces in Indonesia (Indonesian government press release, 25/08/2026).
Among the 14 projects, two are already operational, six are under construction and six are to be offered to investors. Key projects include the 1.25 GW Cirata, 636 MW Jatigede, 605 MW Madura and 300 MW Gilimanuk solar plants. The projects are located in West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, Riau Islands and Bangka Belitung Islands.
The programme forms part of the government's plan to deploy 100 GW of solar capacity by 2029 and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The rollout is expected to take place in stages, with initial targets of 17 GW, 18 GW and 30 GW, before reaching the full 100 GW target.
The government expects the programme to support domestic industries including solar cell manufacturing, battery production and power transmission infrastructure. It is also targeting the retirement of 13 GW of diesel-fired generation capacity and reaching 30 GW of solar power for 2026.
