India’s Uttar Pradesh aims to generate 22 GW of solar power by 2027

The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has announced in its Solar Policy 2022 that it aims to generate 22 GW of solar power by 2027. 14 GW will be generated through the establishment of solar parks, 4.5 GW through residential rooftop solar projects, 1.5 GW through non-residential rooftop projects and 2 GW through the PM Kusum Yojana, a scheme aimed at setting up solar pumps and other new power plants across the country.

The Uttar Pradesh Solar Policy 2022 will be applicable for five years. In addition to financial aid from the central government, the state government has approved a contribution of INR15,000/kW (US$186/kW), and a maximum of INR30,000 (US$377) per consumer.

Along with the power purchase agreement, utility-scale solar power projects, stand-alone battery systems and a storage system of more than 5 MW with a capacity of 4 hours, a capital subsidy of INR25m/MW (US$306,000) has been given.

At the end of 2021, at the national level, solar and wind accounted for nearly 20% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 49 GW and 40 GW. The country aims to develop 175 GW of renewable capacity by the end of 2022, including 100 GW of solar.
