The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (Tangedco), a regional power utility owned by the government of Tamil Nadu (India), has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) totalling 2,900 MW with Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and Power Trading Corporation (PTC). NLC will sell 1,500 MW of electricity to Tangedco at INR3.06/kWh (US$4c/kWh) from a 3x800 MW coal-fired project at Talabira (Odisha), which is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026-2027. In addition, Tangedco will purchase 1,000 MW of solar power from SECI at INR2.61/kWh (US$3.4c/kWh) starting at the end of fiscal year 2022-2023 and 400 MW from PTC at INR3.26/kWh (US$4.3kWh) for three years.
