According to preliminary statistics by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy of India, the installed renewable capacity connected to the Indian grid reached 33,792 MW in 2014. The build of these capacities consisted of wind parks (22,465 MW), followed by small-hydro power plants (3,991 MW), solar plants (3,063 MW), bagasse-fired power plants (2,800 MW), biogas- and biomass-fired power plants (1,365 MW) and waste-to-power plants (108 MW). In addition, other renewable systems (waste-to-energy plants, hybrid systems, biomass gasifiers, water mills, etc.) not connected to the grid added a total capacity of 1,123 MWeq.
In the fiscal year 2014-2015 ending in March 2015, India installed 2,104 MW of grid-connected renewable power capacity, i.e. 56% of its 3,770 MW target. 1,333 MW of wind power were added over this period (67% of the 2,000 MW target), while 431 MW of solar capacity and 187 MW of small-hydropower capacities were added (39% of the 1,100 MW target and 75% of the 250 MW target, respectively).
