India’s power utility NTPC has reported its operational performance for FY2025-2026 and recorded its highest-ever annual capacity addition, commissioning 9.6 GW during the year, according to the company (NTPC Limited statement on X, 01/04/2026). The company also generated 432.2 TWh of electricity during the period.
During the fiscal year, NTPC added 5.5 GW of green capacity, spanning solar, wind, and pumped-storage hydropower projects. NTPC also reported coal production of 48.6 Mt, reflecting a 6% year-on-year growth.
NTPC’s total installed capacity currently exceeds 89 GW (mainly coal, with 67 GW), with an additional 32 GW under construction. The company aims to scale its capacity to 149 GW by 2032, including 60 GW from renewable sources.
Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL), Adani’s renewable subsidiary, also announced recently that it added over 5 GW renewable energy capacity in fiscal 2025-2026, taking its total operational portfolio to 19.3 GW (KEI, 07/04/2026).
