India’s Karnataka will expand the capacity of the Pavagada Solar Park by 3 GW

The Energy Department of the Indian State of Karnataka has announced plans to expand the capacity of its 2 GW Pavagada Solar Park by 3 GW. To achieve this objective, the Karnataka Solar Power Development Corporation Limited (KSPDCL) is set to establish a 2.5 GW solar power plant near the Ryapte Gram Panchayat area and another 500 MW solar plant in Inturayanahalli Gram Panchayat. About 12,000 acres (nearly 4,900 hectares) of land will be required for the expansion of Pavagada, which is already one of Karanataka’s largest solar parks.

At the end of 2022, solar and wind accounted for 22% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 63 GW and 42 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
