India's Adani Transmission acquires a 650 km transmission network

Adani Transmission Ltd (ATL) has signed an agreement with Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd (KPTL) to buy Alipurduar Transmission, which operates transmission lines aggregating to around 650 km in West Bengal and Bihar (eastern India) for INR12.9bn (US$172m). With this acquisition, the cumulative network of ATL will reach more than 15,400 km, out of which more than 12,200 km (including this asset) is operational and more than 3,200 km is under various stages of execution.

Powergrid Co Ltd (PGCIL), a centrally-owned public company, operates more than 90% of India's interstate network and wheels almost half of all transmitted electricity, covering more than 161,000 km. Powergrid is in charge of integrating the regional networks and, in the long term, of managing the entire transmission network. Sterlite Power Group, an India Grid Trust subsidiary, is one of the biggest private players and manages a portfolio of about 12 000 km of transmission lines.
