India’s independent power producer Adani Power has commissioned the second 800 MW unit of its Jharkhand ultra-supercritical (USC) coal-fired power plant, located near the city of Godda in the state of Jharkhand (eastern India), after the unit completed its reliability run tests. The new unit has already started exporting electricity to neighbouring Bangladesh, its main purpose.
The first 800 MW unit of the plant, commissioned in early April 2023, is also being used to export power to Bangladesh. Adani Power will supply 1,496 MW of net capacity power from the 1.6 GW Jharkhand power plant under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) which was signed in 2017 with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). The power will be supplied via a 400 kV dedicated transmission system connected to Bangladesh’s grid.
