Indian state of Rajasthan plans to reach 50 GW of solar by 2025

The Indian state of Rajasthan has plans to reach 50 GW of total solar installed capacity within the next 6 years, with an intermediary target of 25 GW by 2021-2022. The new target is part of a proposed policy package to establish the state as a solar hub and includes proposals to develop decentralized, grid-connected solar projects between 500 kW and 3 MW. The smaller project would be selected through tariff-based competitive tender. Furthermore, 500 MW solar power plants would be developed by private investors and the state's government (with a 50% equity in the joint ventures formed).

India has the most ambitious renewable capacity target in the world: 227 GW to be installed by 2022 (excl. large hydro). In total, 40 GW of rooftop projects, 40 GW of utility-scale solar plants, and 20 GW of ultra-mega solar parks are expected. In its 15-year Vision Plan to FY2031-32, India targets 275 GW of renewables (excluding large hydro) by 2027.
