India unveils guidelines for implementing 2 GW of solar projects

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of India has released the guidelines for the implementation of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) Phase-II Batch-III, aimed at installing 2 GW of solar power projects. The JNNSM had set a target for deployment of grid connected solar power capacity of 20 000 MW by 2022 to be achieved in 3 phases (1000 MW in first phase up to 2012-13, 9000 MW in second phase from 2013 to 2017 and 10000 MW in the third phase from 2017 to 2022). The second phase will consist of batches, including a first batch of 750 MW and a third batch of 2 GW. Those 2 GW of projects will be implemented by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in solar parks, which will be developed by central and state agencies on land provided by state governments. Currently, the Government of India is considering to substantially scale up targets of solar capacity additions in the country to 100 GW by 2022.
