According to the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), India has reached a non-fossil power capacity of 267 GW during 2025, representing an increase of 23% compared to 2024 (Indian government press release, 10/01/2026).
- Solar capacity posted the highest growth with 39%, rising from 98 GW to almost 136 GW (+38 GW), followed by wind (+13%) that increased from 48 GW to 54.5 GW (+6.3 GW) at the end of 2025.
- The country also installed capacity for biomass, which reached 11.6 GW, including 550 MW from waste-to-energy off-grid projects.
- Large hydro reached almost 51 GW, including 7 GW of pumped storage, while small hydro increased to 5.16 GW.
India aims to install 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030.
