The Indian Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the INR120.3bn (US$1.6bn) Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II for Intra-State Transmission System (InSTS). The project will add about 10,750 km of transmission lines and 27,500 MVA transformation capacity of substations, in order to supply 20 GW of renewable energy to the national grid from the seven states of Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
The first phase of the GEC, which includes 9,700 km of transmission lines and 22,600 MVA capacity of substations, is under implementation in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu and will help supply around 24 GW of renewable energy by 2022.
