ILI Group unveils a new 1.5 GW pumped-storage hydro project in Scotland (UK)

ILI Group has launched the initial planning phase for the 1,500 MW Balliemeanoch pumped-storage hydropower project at Loch Awe, near Dalmally in Argyll & Bute, in Scotland (United Kingdom). The group plans to build an artificial lake in the hills above Loch Awe capable of holding 58 mcm of water when full.

ILI Group is already developing two other pumped-storage projects in Scotland. In June 2021, the group was authorised by the Scottish government to develop the 450 MW Red John pumped-storage hydropower project worth £550m (€640m) on the shores of Loch Ness. In addition, in August 2021, ILI Group started the initial planning phase for the new 600 MW Corrievarkie pumped-storage hydro project at Loch Ericht, Dalwhinnie, in the Scottish Highlands. The company intends to create a new upper reservoir in the hills above Loch Ericht that will hold 22 mcm of water when full.
