IGP secures consent for a 500 MW BESS project in Scotland (UK)

Island Green Power (IGP) has secured consent for a 500 MW battery energy storage system near New Deer in Aberdeenshire (Scotland, United Kingdom) (IGP press release, 09/09/2026). The Abbotshaugh Energy Storage project will store electricity when supply exceeds demand, helping to stabilize the grid, enhance energy security, and support greater integration of renewable energy. Located about 5 km west of New Deer, it will occupy a 9-hectare development area and includes landscaping and biodiversity enhancements designed to minimize visual impacts and improve the surrounding environment.
