The renewable developer Ignitis Renewables has announced the full commissioning of the 314 MW Kelmė onshore wind project, located in central Lithuania. The park is currently the largest fully operational onshore wind power plant in the Baltic States, according to Ignitis Renewables. The wind park has the potential to generate around 1 TWh/year of electricity, enough to power about 250,000 Lithuanian households. It features 44 Nordex N163/6.X turbines. The first 16 turbines (114 MW) came online in April 2025, while the remaining 28 turbines (200 MW) began commercial operations in June 2025.
Lithuania aims to establish two offshore wind parks totalling 1.4 GW to meet half of its current electricity needs, ensuring energy self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on imports. In 2023, Lithuania awarded the 700 MW of its first offshore wind tender to a joint venture between Ocean Winds and Ignitis Renewables. The country aims to source its electricity exclusively from local renewable energies by 2030.
