Iberdrola plans to invest €5.3bn in Brazil over the next three years

The Spanish energy group Iberdrola, which is active in Brazil through its subsidiary Neoenergia, has inaugurated the 600 MW Neoenergia Renewable Energy Complex in the Paraiba state, the first hybrid complex in Brazil. The €630m project includes 15 wind parks with a combined capacity of 417 MW (Chafariz wind complex) and two solar PV plants with a combined capacity of 149 MW (Luzia solar plant). In addition, Iberdrola has committed to invest BRL30bn (€5.3bn) over the next three years in the development of renewable and grid projects in Brazil and to pursue new opportunities in the country, such as offshore wind power or green hydrogen.

In 2022, Iberdrola operated 5.1 GW of installed capacity in Brazil (+553 MW), including 3 GW of hydropower, 1.4 GW of onshore wind (+410 MW), 533 MW of CCGT, and 143 MW of new solar. The group generated 14.8 TWh during the year in Brazil (-2.5%), including 10.8 TWh from hydropower (+12%), and 3.8 TWh from onshore wind (+66%); gas-fired power generation fell by over 99% to 14 GWh.
