Iberdrola plans 590 MW solar PV power project in Extremadura (Spain)

Iberdrola has submitted the 590 MW Francisco Pizarro solar power project to the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition for approval. The project, worth over €300m, would be located in Torrecillas de la Tiesa and Aldeacentenera, near Caceres in Extremadura (western Spain). When commissioned in 2022, it would be larger than the 500 MW Núñez de Balboa solar PV plant that Iberdrola is building in Usagre (Badajoz), also in Extremadura.

Iberdrola has more than 700 MW of renewable power projects under construction in Spain, including the Núñez de Balboa project. In addition, the group is also developing the 328 MW Ceclavín, 150 MW Arenales and Campo Arañuelo I and II photovoltaic plants (50 MW each) in Caceres. In Andalusia, the group is developing the 50 MW Andévalo solar PV project, and it will build the 50 MW Romeral PV project in Cuenca. In addition, Iberdrola has 73 MW of wind projects under administrative processing in Burgos.

At the end of March 2019, Iberdrola operated 15.8 GW of renewable power capacity in Spain, including 9.7 GW of hydropower, 5.8 GW of onshore wind and 306 MW of small hydropower.
