Iberdrola orders Vestas turbines for 476 MW offshore wind plant (Germany)

Spanish energy group Iberdrola has signed a contract with Vestas to supply 50 V174-9.5 MW turbines for the 476 MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind project next to the island of Rügen in the German part of the Baltic Sea. Up to 52 units of the offshore wind turbine will be deployed on the site. Their delivery and installation are scheduled for 2024. The 476 MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind project will be located 75 km from the German coast and will be connected to the Lubmin station via two new high voltage cables by 50Hertz.

This project is Iberdrola's second major offshore initiative in Germany after the launch of the 350 MW Wikinger wind park in 2017. Once complete, Baltic Eagle (476 MW), Wikinger (350 MW) and Wikinger Süd (10 MW) will have a total combined capacity of 836 MW for a total investment of €2.5bn. They are expected to cover 45% of the electricity consumption in the state of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania (Germany).
