Iberdrola completes its 496 MW Saint-Brieuc offshore wind park (France)

Ailes Marines, a Spanish utility Iberdrola company, has completed the installation of all 62 offshore turbines of the 496 MW Saint-Brieuc offshore wind park in France. The offshore site is located 16 kilometres off the north-west coast of France in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc in the English Channel, where the first 8 MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbine was installed in May 2023. The installation work lasted 8 months.

The commissioning of the project has been divided in stages, with a first 20% stage already delivering power since July 2023. A second 50% stage is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2024. The Saint-Brieuc offshore wind park is expected to produce around 1.82 TWh/year, equivalent to 9% of Brittany’s electricity consumption. The power produced will be collected by an offshore electrical substation before being transported to the grid by two 225 kV subsea export cables.

France plans to reach 40% of electricity produced from renewable sources by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050. France also aims to develop 40 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050 (482 MW at the end of 2022, thanks to the commissioning of the 480 MW Saint-Nazaire offshore wind park in November 2022).
